An Update on Deals

It's been a while since we had a post on our deals functionality, so I think it's time for an update. We've been spending quite a bit of time thinking about our Deals product and how we can continue to evolve it. I'll describe the outcome from the hours of strategy sessions below.

At a high level, we believe that Deals (i.e. a deal_id, also known as PMPs) are just another mechanism for a pub to execute a direct-sold order with a buyer. Rather than signing a contract (IO) and emailing tags to be booked as creatives in the publisher's ad server, Deals handle these two aspects programmatically via RTB. Deals should have all of the functionality that a direct-sold order would have: flights dates, budgets, performance goals, flexible targeting, and guaranteed delivery.

To accomplish this and provide all the functionality deals should have, we have some exciting work going into deals on our platform. For a publisher, deals will look and feel more like Line Items rather than a standalone feature in our system. We expect this to take several months, but we believe the wait will be well worth it!
